As an attorney in another UK colony gone rogue, I've watched our anglo-american legal system do some weird things...some good things...some stupid things...some terrible things...and have watched appellate courts fix or flummox all of the above...but make-believe is make-believe...and only in a movie was Santa Claus declared a reality in a court of law, and while Miracle on 34th St is adorable as a play...it remains a fiction. With that in mind, it seems a fair comparison to say, what if I were inclined to play "I'm a girl", I'd hope folks would tolerate me and let me live in my dream state for whatever reasons I needed to...I surely would treat another that way...and what if I decided I were Santa...I'd hope friends would let me do the fun things like give presents to children...dress up in the appropriate ways...HOWEVER, I do hope they would rein me in, if I tried to get a row of harnessed reindeer to charge off the roof of a ten story building...at some point in time, the fantasy play that allows certain individual's psyches tolerable for their day, cannot exceed Others' Reality.

I agree with most of what you say, Tom, and the Santa Claus analogy is very apt - but I wouldn't be too quick to condemn the whole legal system. This was (and is) a really stupid law, and it was passed by politicians in parliament, with an anti-woman interpretation that was backed up by the Sex Discrimination Commissioner. It would have been nice if the judge could have found a way to decide in Sall's favour, but it will be way better if the parliament gets un-captured and fixes the law. The people of Australia deserve no less, and it will be a more lasting victory

There needs to be far greater awareness of what is driving men to feel entitled to women’s spaces - particularly,
1.
